DILIMAN, Quezon City—Twenty-three Young Farmers from different regions in the country have completed the Pre-departure Orientation Course (PDOC) of the Young Filipino Farm Leaders Training Program in Japan (YFFLTPJ) Batch 2025 and were sent to Japan for the 11-month internship.
The YFFLTPJ program aims to empower young farmers to become agricultural entrepreneurs by acquiring skills and knowledge of modern agriculture and fisheries technology, including value chain management, cooperative management, and enhancement of competencies, discipline, and values. It will serve as a venue for on-farm training in Japan. Their assigned host farmer will also be based on the interest and expertise of the trainees.
Moreover, the PDOC includes lessons on Japanese Tradition, Cultural and Language Class, which enabled the trainees to be prepared in communicating effectively with their respective Host Farmers and their co-interns from other Nations to foster friendships and professional relationships.
The trainees also underwent Smart Farming and Financial Literacy Training that aimed to empower them about science-based farming approaches that play a big role in increasing efficiency, higher yields, labor efficiency, and promoting sustainability and food security by minimizing environmental impact.
Likewise, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) also provided the trainees with innovative and useful interventions training on Mental Health and coping mechanisms given by medical experts to boost their mental and emotional strength and resilience that they will need in order to withstand the challenges of living in a new environment and culture in Japan.
Last April 8, ATI conducted a send-off ceremony at RDEC Function Hall, Elliptical Road, Diliman Quezon City. This activity marked a significant milestone, symbolizing the unwavering perseverance from the outset of the PDOC.
ATI Director Engr. Remelyn R. Recoter expressed her confidence that the internship will provide invaluable experiences to the young farmer leaders as they contribute significantly to the transformation of Philippine agriculture into a competitive and robust sector.
This is aligned with the vision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel towards a Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas. The activity was participated in by the Regional ATI coordinators, Local Government Units - Provincial and Municipal Coordinators, and Parents.
The 11-month internship program will run from April 11, 2025 to February 19, 2026.
